New York City gives UPS over 15,000 parking tickets a month!

New York isn’t very friendly to the people delivering our mail-or to anyone really. In most of New York’s narrow streets, there are no legal spots to park and so many UPS trucks have to resort to parking illegally alongside curbs. They simply have no other choice; they have demanding schedules that involve delivering hundred of packages to corporations such as Goldman and Citibank in the city.

UPS and other mail delivery services rack up about 7,000 parking tickets every day and end up paying more than $102 million in fines. The Atlanta-based UPS is the biggest offender in the city, paying $18.7 million in parking violations each year.

UPS spokesperson Diane Hatcher said, “We receive by far more parking fines in New York City than anywhere else in the world. Simply stated, we don’t have the same level of difficulty with finding available parking spaces or loading zones anywhere else.”
