The creator of the Internet apologized for the // in URLs because they're unnecessary!

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is the creator of the World Wide Web. Who knew! He recently admitted to adding the // to the web addresses and stated they were unnecessary at the time. He thought they’d be a good idea back then. He could have easily designed the URLs without the forward slashes.

When he created the system over 20 years ago, he had no idea the forward slashes would cause such a hassle to people. He designed the web so that scientists could easily communicate.

He currently works as the director of the World Wide Web Consortium. He also works with the United Kingdom government to help open up access to government data.
