When he went deaf, Beethoven hacked the legs off his piano and wrote music by feeling the vibrations!
At the age of 28 years, Beethoven experienced a musician’s worst nightmare; losing his sense of hearing. He tried every treatment available but could find no fix. Through the last 10 years of his life, Beethoven heard absolutely nothing.
However, he decided that he couldn’t let something like a loss of hearing impede his ability to compose great music. Since he couldn’t listen to the music, he decided that he would use a different sense to experience it.
He cut off the legs off his piano so that he could play it sitting on the ground and discern various sounds based on the vibrations they created on the floor. Some say that he knew his music so well that he could probably hear it in his head.
