Google is making a public database of all the satellite images ever taken!

What started out as an advanced search engine, has slowly become one of the world's greatest companies for technological advancements. From Google Maps, to Google Earth, to Google phones, to Google glasses, Google continues to constantly raise the bar with regards to what we can do with technology.

Google is working on what they call 'Google Earth Engine' which will essentially be a massive database of all the satellite images ever taken, including the ones that will be taken after the launch of the database. In total, Google will have over 40 years of satellite images!

The reason that Google is creating this database, is that they want the information that Satellite images contain to be available for scientists, independent researchers, and nations, to have this information readily available - as opposed to having to spend hours of your time digging for the satellite images.

Google Engine will be able to detect deforestation, estimating forest biomass and carbon, mapping the world's road-less areas, as well as showing the growth of major cities in the world such as Las Vegas!
