The sandbox tree is also called the possumwood and jabillo. It’s an evergreen tree native to the tropics of North and South America, including the Amazon Rainforest. It is covered with dark, pointed spines and smooth bark. The tree looks straight out of a jungle tribe torture story. The spines have made the tree have the nickname of Monkey no-climb. The tree can grow up to 200 feet tall with leaves up to 2 feet wide. The fruit that grows on the tree is even more dangerous than the tree itself.
The fruit is shaped like a capsule that explodes to spread its seeds. The seeds are sharp and fly about 100 feet at 150 miles per hour when the fruit explodes. For good reason, the tree is also called the Dynamite Tree. Its sap has been used to poison arrows. The wood is good and used for furniture making. All in all, it is dangerous tree to probably steer clear of.
