Stevie Wonder was an astute student, always knowing the answer to any question his teacher had. When he was 9, his teacher was Mrs. Beneduci in a Detroit public school. Mrs. Beneduci realized how extraordinary Stevie was, whose last name is really Morris. She also realized how confident Stevie was and that he was a very special child. One day in class, she told everyone she heard a faint scratching and that there was a mouse in the room. All the kids started freaking out and chaos erupted.
However, Stevie sat quietly at his desk listening. Mrs. Beneduci calmed the class down and told Stevie to find the mouse for them. He was excited that he’d been given such an important assignment. He tilted his head listening and located the mouse without anyone else being able to hear it. The mouse became the classroom pet and Stevie found out that he had extraordinary hearing. The seed was sown and it was from that experience that his love of music developed and grew.
