Male llamas have fighting teeth.

A male llama’s mouth is nothing short of a death trap. At around 2 years of age, it will develop a total of six fighting teeth. There are two upper and one lower blade sharp teeth on each side. When male llamas are threatened, they bring out those secret weapons. In fights with other male llamas, they often aim their teeth at the “junk” area, and have been known to castrate their opponent.

It is reported that these teeth appear in conjunction with the llama’s ability to settle females. Until these teeth come in, the male llama is not fertile. Llama’s often use their teeth to compete for their mate. Naturally, most llama keepers decide to remove the llama’s fighting teeth before it’s too late.
