What do you know, trolling existed long before the internet. The title and cover of Nick Lowe’s EP “Bowi” was a cheeky response to David Bowie’s album “Low” which had come out earlier in that same year (1977). Lowe said that because Bowie had made album with his name but without the final e, he would make a record with Bowie’s name, also missing the final e.
The album only contained 4 songs; Born a Woman, Shake the Rat, Marie Provost, and Endless Sleep. Unlike the album itself, these songs were no joke. Marie Provost was written about the death of silent film star of the same name, whose body was discovered several days after she had died in her New York apartment. Critics didn’t mind it too much either. Allmusic rated the album 4.5 out of 5 stars.
