Redhead, ginger, carrot top…whatever you call them, one thing stands to reason. People with red hair are unique and passersby will always give them a second look. Makes sense – only 1-2% of the world population boasts the uniquely colored tresses, and they’ve had quite a unique history. Here are some fun facts about redheads: Ancient Greeks thought they turned into vampires when they died. (Is Lucille Ball busy drinking other people’s blood in heaven?)

During the witch hunts, many women were burned at the stake simply because they had red hair. 6-18 million redheads live in the United States alone. Women who dye their hair red are said to be unhappy in their relationships and/or circumstances. “Gingerphobia” is a fear of redheads. Some famous redheads in history include: Mark Twain, Cleopatra, Napoleon Bonaparte, Thomas Jefferson, Malcolm X, and Galileo.
