Al Capone started one of the first soup kitchens!

Al Capone; a gangster with a heart of gold. During the Great Depression, food was practically a luxary and jobs were an urban legend. To help both the employment and hunger problem, Al Capone (notorious Chicago gangster) started one of the first soup kitchens. The kitchen employed a few people, but fed many more. In fact, preceding the passage of the Social Security Act, “soup kitchens” like the one Al Capone founded, provided the only meals that some unemployed Americans had.

Today, even though times are better, there are still many people who can’t properly nourish themselves and their families. In 2011, 46.5 million people, aka: 15% of the American population, were in poverty. Take a page out of Al Capone’s book, and help out! More info in the source!
