A Redskins player had a Root Canal done the day before the Super Bowl… and still played!
Talk about dedication to your career! On the day before Superbowl XXII, Redskins player Doug Williams underwent a SIX HOUR root canal under full anesthesia but still got it together and managed to play the next day. Williams was suffering from an abscess under a dental bridge – a very painful condition that caused him to lose sleep for several days. It must have taken some serious locker room pep talks to get him ready for the Big Game.
The Superbowl would prove to be the highlight of Williams’ career. He retired with a 5-9 record as a Redskins starter and a 38-42-1 record as a regular season starter. Playing in a total of 88 NFL games, overall he had 100 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing touchdowns.
