When Harmonix was developing the Rock Band Network, they codenamed it Rock Band: Nickelback to deflect any attention!
After the huge success of the Rock Band franchise, music labels couldn't wait to get their artists as downloadable content on the video game. For a while, there was a huge bottleneck because Harmonix had to translate the song into playable form.
They decided to create a platform called Rock Band Network that would give tools and training to people interested in putting songs on Rock Band. This platform was deemed to be so significant and consequential that Harmonix wanted to keep it a secret for as long as possible. To defer as much attention as possible from Rock Band Network, they decided to give it an infamous code-name: Rock Band Nickelback.
