Singer James Blunt claims he prevented World War III
You might know him from his breakout hit You're Beautiful, but did you know James Blunt was a British soldier before hitting it big in show business?
In 1999 he was stationed in Kosovo, where he was the head of a column of about 30,000 Nato troops. Then, an order from a US general came down during the taking of Pristina airfield. He says he was given a direct command to 'overpower' the Russians. He says other words such as 'destroy' came down the radio.
He refused to take the orders. Instead he questioned the order until General Mike Jackson came on the radio and said "I'm not gonna have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III." Russians would later yield when they ran out of food and water.
