Gmail is Google’s free email service which, like nearly everything Google has released, has become extremely useful. Most people would assume intricate detail was given to every aspect of something as important as a new Google service released, yet that wasn’t the case. The company developed the software for some time, yet kept delaying the design of the logo.
Dennis Hwang creates most of the Google designs and was in charge of creating Gmail’s as well. However they were so busy, the logo kept getting pushed back until it was the night before the program was to be released and it still hadn’t been done. Hwang and one other designer locked themselves in a cubicle for nearly the entire night and finished the eye-catching logo just hours before the sight launched!
The logo itself is interesting because it is composed of two different fonts and an “M” that looks like an envelope. In most cases, procrastination is never a good thing, but for once it turned out to work for the best!
