The Prestige was a novel written by Christopher Priest that Christopher Nolan adapted into a film with the same title in 2006 starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Scarlett Johansson. The novel and film are about rivaling magicians, a murder, and a magic trick that no one can figure out. The rivalry gets out of hand, women and love are fought over, and it ends badly. Priest, who wrote the novel watched the film three times since 2007.
His reactions were, “Well, holy s***,” then “God, I like that,” and finally “Oh, I wish I’d thought of that.” Priest's epistolary novel was adapted to the screen by Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, using nonlinear narrative structure. The film received positive reviews and strong box office results, and Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. The film’s box office earnings were $109,676,311 and its budge was $40,000,000. It did pretty well for itself.
