Costco was the first company to grow from $0 to $3 billion in sales in less than 6 years!
You probably know Costco. They're one of the oldest membership warehouse clubs. People pay an annual fee in exchange for being able to buy goods and groceries in large amounts for small prices. The company got started under the name Price Club in San Diego in 1976. It was intended to serve small businesses. To generate clout, they thought they would invite select members that weren't businesses.
That set off their immense growth. In 1983, the first Costco opened in Seattle. Within 6 years, the company went from 0 to $3 billion in sales in less than 6 years, making it the first company to do so. Costco and Price Club merged in 1993, and they already had $16 billion in annual sales!
