The monument is called “The Teardrop” and is aligned with the Statue of Liberty. It was made, donated, and installed by the Russian people as a statement against terrorism and given to the US on the 5th anniversary of September 11th. The monument was created by artist, Zurab Tsereteli. The walkway around the monument is made of stone and has the names of 9/11 victims carved into them. Names of people who died on 9/11 are inscribed on a large stone at the base of the monument like that of the Vietnam Memorial wall.
The Teardrop Memorial is officially entitled To the Struggle Against World Terrorism and located at the northeast corner of Bayonne Peninsula in New Jersey. The artist, Tsereteli was moved by the mourning over the 9/11 attacks while walking through Moscow. He idea of a tear formed in his mind and he went to visit Ground Zero and then looked to the New Jersey waterfront for a good site to place a monument to honor the victims of the attack.
