The Pyrenean ibex is the only species to become “un-extinct” after successfully being cloned – though the clone only lived for 7 minutes!

The Pyrenean ibex was a sub-species of the Spanish ibex, also known as the Iberian wild goat. They are endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. The Pyrenean ibex was most often found in Southern France and in the Northern Pyrenees mountains. In 2000, the Pyrenean ibex went extinct as a scientist tried to clone DNA from one of the last females. For seven minutes the Pyrenean ibex became un-extinct and then the clone died.

It was the only species to ever become un-extinct, nonetheless. The last Pyrenean ibex was a female named Cecilia. She was found dead in 2000 next to a fallen tree. Her cause of death is unknown specifically. They are the second of the four sub-species of Spanish ibex to become extinct.

They died off due to high hunting pressures apparently. Competition with domestic and wild ungulates contributed to the extinction of Pyrenean ibex, as well.
