Moonwalking is the king of dance moves, but surprisingly, the King of Pop didn't create it. For those of you who have spent your entire live isolated from television, movies, and human interaction; the moonwalk is a dance technique that presents the illusion of the dancer being pulled backwards while attempting to move forwards.
The moonwalk was made famous after Michael Jackson executed the dance move during a performance of “Billy Jean” on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever on March 25th 1983. However, there are many recorded instances of the moonwalk pre-Michael Jackson. Similar steps were used by Cab Calloway as far back as 1932. In 1985, Calloway said that the move was called the “Buzz” when he first performed it in 1930.
However, it should be noted that the first man to actually do the moonwalk was Neil Armstrong in 1969.
