Madam Leong Mee Yan sat down on her toilet on March 25, 2009 and didn’t get up for another 902 days. She ate, slept, and showered on the toilet. During the 902 days, she only showered a total of 18 times. Her husband was her only caregiver and she saw no one the entire 902 days. She sat naked on the toilet.
To pass time, her husband moved the TV in view of the bathroom so that she could watch it. She slept sitting slumped forward with her head resting on her hands that were propped up by her thighs. She said that she felt a strong force keeping her seated. Her husband admitted to thinking about leaving her, but felt it was too harsh since she was his wife.
Finally, after 2.5 years of sitting on the can, her husband had enough. He called the police to come help him. They pinned her down, wrapped her up in a towel, and took her to a mental health facility where she remained for 18 days. She is unable to walk more than a couple steps, because her legs have withered down to almost nothing.
Today, when she uses the toilet, she is only there for an hour or two at a time. She takes 8 different pills daily to keep her toilet time down to just a few hours a day. The family hopes that with physiotherapy, she will one day walk again. As for now, she sleeps in a chair, because extending her legs hurts her too much. Image:
