Just in case you never had grade 4 history; Helen Adam Keller was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. Not only was she also deaf and blind, but she was the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her teacher, Anne Sullivan, helped Helen overcome the communication struggles she faced on a daily basis, and turned her into a prolific author.
Keller was not only well-written, but she was also well-traveled; she would circle the globe to support the causes she cared about. She didn’t hide her anti-war convictions, and was a dedicated member of the Industrial Workers of the World and the Socialist Party of America. In fact, during the 1920’s, the FBI monitored her because of her activities with the Socialist Party.
