After being shot in the groin climbing an ice cliff, a soldier managed to lob a grenade and then killed another 4 enemies!

Yogendra Singh Yadav is a soldier in the Indian Army and has been awarded the highest Indian military honour Param Vi Chakra- and for good reason too. In the Kargil War with Pakistan, Grenadier Yadav was part of the Commando “Ghatak” (Deadly or Lethal) Platoon. Their mission was to capture three strategic bunkers that were situated on a 16,500 ft. cliff on Tiger Hill at the dawn of July 4th 1999.

Yadav volunteered to lead the assault. As he was climbing up to the cliff and fixing ropes for further assault, an enemy bunker opened machine gun and rocket fire, killing the platoon commander and two others. He too took three bullets to the groin and shoulder. But in spite of it all, he crawled to the first bunker and lobbed a grenade which killed four Pakistani soldiers and neutralized enemy fire.

When he charged second bunker with two fellow soldiers, he was met with four Pakistani soldiers, and helped in killing them all in hand-to-hand combat. Subsequently, the platoon succeeded in capturing Tiger Hill.
