Unlike regular children, William Kamkwamba really wanted to go to school.
However, his family was unable to afford the tuition at his Malawian school, and he was forced to drop out. Kamkwamba didn't want to stop learning though so he frequented the local library.
There, he discovered a love for electronics and started experimenting with building contraptions. With some trial and error, he made a windmill that powered some electronic appliances in his family's house.
Local farmers and then journalists visited to see this new invention, and Kamkwamba started getting some serious attention.
He soon gained international fame for his accomplishments. He was invited to give a TED talk about his work and then attended African Bible College Christian Academy.
After that, he went to the African Leadership Academy on a scholarship. And finally, the boy who had to drop out of school attended Dartmouth College in the US. Way to go, William.
