Grace Kelly became close friends with a black dancer after Kelly defended her from a racist assault

Grace Kelly was one of the most attractive women in 20th century. She is commonly referred as Princess Grace, as she was Princess of Monaco. In 1951, when she was becoming more and more famous, Kelly got involved in a racist incident that occurred in Stork Club in New York.

The staff at the club refused to serve dancer Josephine Baker because she was black. Kelly was there when all this happened, and was so disgusted that she took Baker by the arm, although they had never met before, and walked out of the club in support of Baker. After that night, they instantly became close friends.

When Baker was near bankruptcy, once again Princess Grace was there for her. She offered Baker a villa and financial assistance. Kelly even encouraged her to return to stage, by financing her final performance in 1975.
