A UK couple made a Rage Against the Machine song #1 to spite an X Factor contestant!

Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name" may not be the first song you think of when you think of Christmas. That didn't stop one British couple from campaigning for it to be the #1 Christmas single though.

In 2009, Jon and Tracy Morter wanted to prevent another single from the popular reality television series "The X Factor" from winning the Christmas contest.

In this case, the X Factor winner was Joe McElderry, and his single was "The Climb." The Morters launched a Facebook campaign to beat "The Climb" and put "Killing in the Name" at the top of the charts. By the time they were done, "Killing in the Name" had sold 500,000 downloads.

Understandable, Rage Against the Machine was pretty happy about their success. And McElderry, who was 18 at the time, said that he was just happy to have won "The X Factor" and have a successful single out. Looks like everybody wins!
