A servant and his family were hung for killing his master after he confessed to the crime. The master came back 2 years later!

In 1660, William Hampton, an estate manager went out to collect rent. When he didn’t come home on time, his wife began to worry and eventually sent out his servant, John Perry, to search for him.

Perry didn't return that night, so Mrs. Hampton also sent his son, who joined Perry in the search.

In their search, they heard that some torn, bloody clothes had been found, and the whole town assumed they were Hampton's and that Hampton was dead. The servant, John Perry was taken in as a suspect in the crime. He eventually admitted that his mother and brother had killed him for the rent money he had collected.

All three were tried and found guilty for the murder of William Hampton and then hung. Two years later William Hampton showed up saying he’d been kidnapped and taken to Turkey. He finally escaped and made his way back home to England.
