Boston has fewer people today than it did in 1910!
Like most urban areas, Boston is fairly densely populated. However, compared to other cities that can have millions of residents, Boston is small. It reached it's peak population in 1950 with just over 800,000 people.
Since then, it has decreased to around 636,000. In fact, Boston's current population is lower than it was in 1910 when it reached 670,585. The majority of the population (just over 53% is white). African Americans make up the next largest group with about 24% of the population and Hispanics make up about 17%.
