From the swashbuckling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow to bank robber John Dillinger, Johnny Depp has often played law breaking and law evading characters. Perhaps Depp has learned a lesson in law evasion from these characters.
While he was born in America and is an American citizen, Depp moved to France in the 1990s to live with his French partner, Vanessa Paradis, and raise their two children.
However, after about a decade of living in France, the French government asked Depp to become a permanent citizen. As such, he would be required to pay taxes there. In fact, if he was to spend more than 183 days in France, he would be required to pay taxes. In order to avoid this, Depp moved his family back to the United States.
