Black mambas are fast, nervous, lethally venomous, and when threatened, highly aggressive. They have been blamed for several human deaths, and African myths exaggerate their capabilities to legendary proportions.
Black mambas live in the savannas and rocky hills of southern and eastern Africa. They are Africa’s longest venomous snake, reaching up to 14 feet in length. They are also among the fastest snakes in the world, slithering at speeds of up to 12.5 miles per hour.
Without a rapid and vigorous anti-venom therapy, a bite from a black mamba is always fatal. The anti-venom is a biological product used in the treatment of venomous bites or stings. Before the anti-venom treatment, the black mamba had a 100 % mortality rate.
Luckily for us, the medical field has made great advancements and a lot of lives have been saved from a terrible fate.
