Two men set three world records for Scrabble in one game!

On October 12, 2006 a carpenter named Michael Cresta was playing Wayn Yorra, who worked at a supermarket, and together they scored the record for most points in a game by one player, the most total points in a game, and the most points on a single word.

Cresta played the word “QUIXOTRY” for 365 points, which is the most ever earned from a single word. He won the game with 830 points, which is the most points ever scored in one game, and together the duo earned 1,320 points, the most ever accumulated in a game of Scrabble.

The most amazing part? Neither of them are professional players! Both work normal jobs and enjoy playing competitive scrabble in their free time. When they set the record they were in the basement of a Unitarian church in Lexington, Massachusetts. Scrabble experts also say that it was largely a fluke.

Cresta played “JOUSTED” as his first word and traded in all his tiles for seven new ones. He held I, O, Q, U, and X in his hand and played his huge record setter soon after, setting the world record!
