Nearly 1 billion people in our world lack an adequate supply of water. That is a 6th of our world's population. Now, 2.5 billion people lack adequate sanitation or the ability to improve the sanitation where they live.
Some countries keep people out who want to dig wells and connect pipelines to give the people safe drinking water. It is a way of controlling the people and keeping the world from knowing how terrible conditions really are.
Wine to Water is a nonprofit organization that started in 2004 with a wine tasting. It was a fundraiser; all the money received was sent to fund water projects around the globe. From there they grew and built a strong organization that has provided water and clean sanitation in countries like Sudan, Cambodia, India, and Haiti.
The name came from the Bible. Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding reception where they had run out of it. Wine was chosen for the organization, because it is seen as a symbol of fortune. The organization is dedicated in using it's profits of wine tastings, selling it, and other wine related projects to fund water and sanitation projects worldwide.
