Evanston Township High School is a suburban Chicago high school. They support the Boocoo Cultural Center and Cafe. The center hosts music classes, live performances and entertainment events, and offers computer labs and recording space to the Evanston community. Two seniors, Charlotte Runzel and Jesse Chatz, went to the administration with a fundraising idea.
They wanted to blast Justin Bieber's hit song "Baby" over the intercom of the high school between passing periods and have students pay to shut it off. They asked for a week or until they raised $1000 from the fundraiser to help save the center. It didn't even take that long. They started the campaign on Monday and by Wednesday they had raised $1000.
The students got annoyed really quickly and complained to the high school staff who simply encouraged them to play along with the fundraiser and donate to shut the music off. Maybe we could apply that to the U.S. As a whole and knock out the national debt in three days.
