Former pope Benedict recently gave up his position as the leader of the Catholic Church. Do you think he misses flying the papal helicopter? It turns out that Benedict does not have a driver’s license. He never learned to drive a car.
He never felt the need to learn to drive a car because he lived in areas where it wasn’t easy or necessary to use cars. If he did need a ride, he relied on others to drive him.
He is however a licensed pilot—specifically he is licensed to fly small engine planes and helicopters. He is one of the oldest licensed pilots in the world. When he was pope, he was known to fly the official Vatican helicopter to official meetings, functions and official residences.
