Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece is 2001: A Space Odyssey and it’s known as one of the greatest films ever made. His team did an incredible amount of research before filming and Kubrick was obsessed with even the slightest details about the film. It was so intense that the total footage shot is 200 times that of the actual length of the film. Kubrick himself provided the breathing heard in the spacesuits.
There isn’t even any dialogue in the first 25 minutes of the film and the ending 23 minutes of the film are dialogue free, as well. NASA paid tribute to the film twice by naming a mission and a satellite after the film. It is pretty iconic. It wasn’t accepted well in the beginning, though. At it's premiere screening, 241 people walked out on it including Rock Hudson, the actor. Hudson reportedly left saying “Will someone tell me what the hell this is about?”
