Watermelons and pumpkins are technically berries!
Berries are typically small pieces of fruit that you can hold in the palm of your hand, however there are a few exceptions. For example, watermelons and pumpkins are technically berries. Why? They look NOTHING like any of the other types of berries.
As it turns out, to be classified as a berry, all the plant has to do is be a fruit that has seeds and pulp produced from a single ovary! Since watermelons and pumpkins fit the classification, they are just as much as berries as blueberries and strawberries!
