There is a city in Japan named "Obama"!

No, this city is not named after the 44th president of the United States, this is a real city in Japan and in Japanese, the word "Obama" means "Little Beach." The city itself gained popularity in 2008 when Barack Obama was running for president. Obama's surname, however, has nothing to do with the Japanese meaning. It acually refers to a Luo tribe who converted to Islam.

The Japanese city was in a great position between China and Kyoto and became a trading hub between the two countries. Because of this, the city was heavily influenced by Chinese culture for a long period. Many buildings and houses in the area are influenced by the trade with Chinese mainland.
