Clik here to view. The Sound of Music is one of the most beloved movie / musicals of all time. You're probably all familiar with the story of how novice nun Maria falls in love with Captain Von Trapp after she goes to work as a nanny for him. That is, unless you're Austrian.
Because the movie and musical are set during a painful period of Austrian history, The Sound of Music had never really been shown or staged in the European country. This is despite the fact that the Sound of Music has brought almost as many tourists to Salzburg as Mozart.
Another problem is that the musical and movie have a lot of scenes and songs that seem Austrian but are not part of the culture. For example, the famous song Edelweiss was written specifically for the Sound of Music and not many people know it.
