By 2050, the populations of Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia will decrease by as much as 22%!

These four major countries are facing large contractions in their population. Russia alone is estimated to decline 22 percent between 2005 and 2050. Ukraine’s is supposed to drop by 43 percent. It isn’t an uncommon thing to see Eastern Europe’s population decline, but the rate at which it has begun to decline is what is so staggering.

Japan is starting to shrink, as well, and Germany and Italy are soon to follow. The UN said that by 2050 populations will be lower in than they are today in 50 countries. Demographic decline scares people, because it is thought to be linked to economic decline.

Generally, birth rates decline when a country begins to prosper. They gain better living conditions and quality of life, so the death rate of the country declines and then their birth rate declines as well.

The more education and communication women receive, the less they desire to reproduce. Therefore, the countries that become successful show population decline.
