We know that the mind controls the body. Sometimes it may feel the other way around, but the brain does regulate all bodily functions. Buddhist monks have taken this concept to a whole other level though. Through meditation they are able to control their bodies in ways that others can barely imagine.
For example, some monks can increase their skin temperature just by focusing their minds on doing so. In temperatures of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius), the monks are able to sit outside with bare, wet torsos. They increase their skin temperature to the extent that their skin starts to steam. Experts agree that normal people, in the same conditions, would shiver uncontrollably and be in danger of dying.
When asked how they achieve this, the monks said that they simply relax and focus. They use the air they are breathing in and out as energy and visualize that energy as a flame coursing through their body.
