A member of the band Joy Division was a suspect in the Yorkshire Ripper case!

In 1979, the band Joy Division was touring in some dodgy parts of England. While bands can expect to play in some subpar establishments, their schedule almost got two of the band-members arrested.

Bass player, Peter Hook and drummer Steve Morris were questioned by police as part of their investigation of the unsolved Yorkshire Ripper murder case. It turns out the killer’s movements closely followed the band’s tour. Hook explained that the band had played in some not-so-nice parts of Manchester, Leeds, and Halifax. Police took down both his and Morris’s license plates multiple times.

They were called in for questioning. Understandably nervous, Morris lost his cool and his mother had to be called in to calm him down.
