The Amazon River is responsible for 20% of all the fresh water that flows into the world's oceans!

The Amazon River carries the most water of any river in the world. In fact, it dumps more fresh water in the ocean than any other river, amounting to 20% of the fresh water that goes into the Ocean. Here's more facts about the Amazon:

It's the second longest in the world, after the Nile. The Amazon is about 4,000 miles long. However, scientists have claimed that it might be the longest and they're further studying it to see if it takes the crown away from the Nile.

It has the most tributaries than any other river in the world (over 200). In case you didn't know, tributaries are streams or rivers that flow into bigger ones.

The Amazon dumps so much water into the ocean that it modifies the color and salinity of the Atlantic for nearly 200 miles from the delta.

During heavy rainfall and flood seasons, the Amazon can be more than 20 miles wide.
