Not more than a few decades ago, women who were giving birth to children outside the confines of marriage was a rarity, and was often frowned upon by society. However, in our modern day and age, it has become normal, and an every day occurrence in America.
Initially, giving birth to children outside of marriage was often limited to women in poorer areas, as well as women who are considered minorities. However, according to the NY Times, there has been a dramatic shift in that trend. Now, white women in their twenties, with college education, are the most likely women to have a premarital child.
Of all ages, 59% of women will have a child while married. However, that number is going to drop considerably over the next few years - and it's starting to change what we view as a 'family'.
