While under contract to play James Bond, Pierce Brosman wasn’t allowed to wear a tuxedo in any other non-Bond film.
Who would be so evil as to prevent a 6 foot 1’’, handsome, built-like-a-statue man from wearing a tuxedo? Surprisingly (or not that surprisingly, if you’ve read the title), the producers of James Bond would.
After being chosen to play James Bond, Brosman was contractually obligated to refrain from wearing a tuxedo in any other film.
This is because the producers wanted James Bond to have a very distinct appearance, one that could not and would not be replicated in any way in any other film. Though it seemed like a rather random request at the time, it did pose a problem for the wardrobe staff of The Thomas Crown Affair; the 1999 movie in which Brosman played a successful art-stealing playboy.
