At the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, scientists constructed a robot for one purpose: to punch humans. Researches created the machine and then proceeded to stand in front of it and let themselves be hit repeatedly in the arm. Even with the copious bruises they must have sustained, they claim it was all done for science.
Each volunteer stood in front of the robot and was hit eighteen times at different speeds, intensities, and impacts. Sometimes a blunt or rounded object was tied to the robot and a volunteer was then hit with it, or a more pointed object would be used. After each person was hit they would relay the intensity and pain they felt back to a scientist, who then programmed the robot with the necessary information to know just how to properly hit a human.
Some described the hits as “painless” while others said they were “horrible” and even “unbearable.” The information gathered is intended to be programmed into robots just in case a human needs to be hit, but not injured. Would you let yourself be struck by a robot? Tell us below!
