In 1998, Greenbrier High School in Evans, Georgia held a Coke in Education Day. Coca-Cola executives flew in to give speeches and the students were gathered for a photo spelling out 'Coke.'
This was all in an effort to win a $500 contest put on by the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Of Augusta, GA and a $10,000 national contest.
The effort was sent awry by senior Michael Cameron. Cameron decided to play a joke on the school when he wore a Pepsi shirt underneath an outer shirt that day. Just before the picture was taken, he removed his outer shirt to reveal the Pepsi shirt underneath. Cameron was suspended for one day by principal Gloria Hamilton.
Hamilton maintained that this wasn't about Pepsi vs. Coke, it was about a student being deliberately disruptive and rude. It also didn't help that Cameron risked insulting the visiting executives and costing the school 10 grand.
