Justice David Souter was first nominated for the Supreme Court by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. He held the position for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2009 and being replaced by Sonia Sotomayor, and while he is a world famous legal mind, he has a few quirks.
Souter never married and was once named one of Washington’s 10 Most Eligible Bachelors by the Washington Post. He owned a family farmhouse in Weare, New Hampshire for many years, yet moved to Hopinkton for a strange reason.
Souter told his neighbor that his farmhouse was not structurally sound enough to hold the thousands to books that he has! In addition, Souter has several other quirks including only writing with a fountain pen, never using e-mail, and never buying a cell phone!
