Gears of War: Judgment writer Tom Bissell served in the Peace Corps!

Despite the fact that the Gears of War video game franchise focuses on war, specifically the battle between the COGS and the Locusts, one of the game’s writers actually volunteered for the Peace Corps. Tom Bissell, one of two main writers for Gears of War: Judgment, studied English at Michigan State University and after graduation, volunteered for the Peace Corps for seven months in Uzbekistan.
Bissell then became a book publisher and writer in New York City. He wrote travel articles for magazines like Slate, Harper’s Magazine and The New Republic. He also traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan during wartime as a journalist.
