Jack White from The White Stripes only records in analog and edits his tapes manually with a razor blade!

Musicians are known for being a little quirky--some more than others. Lady Gaga and her meat dress. Michael Jackson and his plastic surgery. Madonna and her strict diets. These quirks may be a call for attention or a way to express themselves, but some quirks directly serve the artist's work. This is the case of Jack White of the White Stripes. White may be one of the quirkiest artists out there. His musical headquarters are decorated with masks and shrunken heads, and all the walls that face west are painted red while those that face east are painted blue. White's business cards read "John A. White III, D.D.S.--Accidental and Occidental Archaeologist."

He once lied that his bandmate, Meg White, was his sister when she was really his wife. He doesn't own a cell phone. Yet, he placed microphones under the eaves of his home because he couldn't hear the rain well enough from inside, and he wanted to pipe the sound in through speakers in his room. White takes issue with today's generation, maintaining that they are too wrapped up in technology and not creative enough. Unsurprisingly, he believes recording his music with modern-day programs like Pro Tools is "cheating." He only records in analog and never digital. And he edits these recordings by cutting them with a razor blade--the old fashioned way.
