There is an animal that is a mix of a shark and a ray.

It’s a shark-ray hybrid and it’s referred to as the ray shark, mud skate, or bowmouth guitarfish (which also sounds like a hip, new indie band). It is the lone member of the family Rhinidae. It has shark-like doral and tail fins and a shark-like swimming style. Ironically though, its main predator is the tiger shark. With all these shark-ish qualities, the blowmouth guitarfish is officially considered a species of ray related to the guitar fishes and skates.

It is found deep within the tropical coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region, at depths of up to 90 m. Even at this depth however, the blowmouth guitarfish’s sizable pectoral fins have caught the attention artisanal and commercial fisheries. The catching of the animal for its pectoral fins has resulted in it having a place on the list of endangered aquatic animals.
