Good may be a relative word, but in the case of mosquitos the only “good” way to describe them is not around. So what would “good” mosquitos be? They’re called Toxorhynchites, or elephant mosquitos, and they’re a type of mosquito that survives by eating the larvae of other mosquitos!
The larvae of the elephant mosquito prey on other larvae and similar other pests. They are different from blood sucking mosquitos in that they don’t suck blood, but rather eat carbohydrate-rich materials like honeydew and other plants.
They live primarily in forests and jungles, yet scientists have considered spreading them to other areas of the world to deal with problems such as malaria and other insect transmitted diseases. Would you consider these to be “good?” Tell us in a comment!
